A fairytale barn wedding in Hemsedal

Are you dreaming of a barn wedding where the atmosphere is relaxed and love takes centre stage? Ours is a 1909 railway goods shed with a six-metre timber ceiling, long tables built from our own forest, and room for 130 guests — rustic, unhurried and, since 2026, warm enough for a wedding in February. If you are picturing something bohemian and romantic, celebrated in a personal, down-to-earth way and surrounded by nature, this is the room for it.

Huso Farm sits secluded in the mountains above Hemsedal, and for a wedding weekend the whole of it is yours. The romance of the farm runs through all of it: savour farm-to-table cuisine, exchange vows in an outdoor ceremony, toast with champagne in the sunlit farmyard, sit down to dinner in the historic barn, walk by torchlight through the forest to the Nøkken Dome, and let your guests sleep in charming log cabins.

Inside the barn

Our Barn is a beautiful wooden cathedral that provides a charming and rustic atmosphere for any celebration. The mighty structure boasts visible timber framing, a six-metre ceiling, large sliding doors that open to a stunning view, and homemade long tables and benches crafted from the timber of our own forest. The attention to detail and dedication of the craftsmen are evident in every part of this unique room.

The warm and welcoming ambience is enhanced by the earth-toned tablecloths and plates, as well as the soft glow of string lights and the natural beauty of wildflowers.

A farm wedding in the mountains

The barn is one building on a farm that has been in the family for three generations: a klyngetun, the old Norwegian cluster farm, with the houses gathered around one yard and the summer farm five hundred metres away, skigard fences running between them and Skogshorn standing over it all. A farm wedding here means the whole of it — the yard for the champagne, the tarn for the ceremony, the barn for the dinner, the cottages for the night.

Much of what is served comes from the farm and the valley, cooked by our own chefs — farm to table in the plain sense. A wedding on a farm where the food comes from the farm is rare in Norway; a barn wedding and a farm wedding at once, on a mountain farm in Eastern Norway that is yours alone for the weekend, is rarer still.

From Gol station to Huso, 1909–2026

Our historic barn began life as a railway goods shed at Gol station, built in 1909 for the opening of the Bergen Line — the railway that crosses the highlands between Oslo and Bergen. For eight decades it held freight waiting for the next train.

In 1991 it was taken over, moved up the valley to Huso, and rebuilt in the farmyard. It has earned its keep ever since: a solar roof on the southern side in 2021, the terrace over the valley in 2023, and in 2026 full winter insulation — so the barn now holds weddings in deep snow as readily as in midsummer. Outside the wedding season it takes conferences, retreats, harvest dinners and company gatherings — the same room, the same long tables.

We got married at Huso on September 27, 2025, and it was the most beautiful setting for an autumn wedding! The wedding ceremony could be held outside by the pond and they had a back up in case it rained. The barn was magically beautiful, and the food we received so many comments that it was very, very good! We couldn't have dreamed of a better dream wedding than here!!

We had our wedding at Huso. It was a magical weekend. We couldn't be happier. It's the perfect place to have your dream wedding. The chef and the food are exceptionally good (several guests said it was the best they had ever eaten). The different areas and buildings make the place completely unique. The Viking Hall that sets the mood on Friday, the barn and party room that tops it off on Saturday, in addition to the beautiful area by the water for an outdoor wedding. The owners are very professional and nice who adapt and help with whatever is desired.

Simply magical!

We got married at Huso on September 13-15 and had a truly spectacular experience. It must be said that you can't always be lucky with the weather, but the bright sun and autumn colours contributed to an unforgettable affair. We were also lucky and got the northern lights on Friday night, which made it extra special.

Background:

120 people, Friday with a gathering in Chieftains hall, wedding on Saturday in Gol church, dinner in the barn, party in the dome!

Experience:

We found that Huso was very keen to play as a team with us and make it our special day. We were perhaps a bit creative in some of the things we wanted, but were met with positivity and a solution-oriented mindset. They were good at following up during the planning and throughout the weekend. We also found that the entire crew (everything from cleaning staff to kitchen, head waiters/waitresses, planners and owner) were available if we needed clarification or sparring during the weekend.

The entire lodge is beautifully located with a view of the valley, and the upper level is secluded, private and very cozy with the water next to the dome. In addition, it is a short distance inland into the mountains that people used to go for a run on Saturday morning.

Food and lodging:

Good breakfast buffet, wonderful barbecue on Friday night, and fantastic food for dinner on Saturday. Local ingredients and good flavors. We also received an incredible amount of nice feedback from the guests about the food. Stoves and saunas were heated for all the cabins both Friday and Saturday, which meant that all the guests could enjoy this.

Venues:

The barn that was used for dinner on Saturday gave a great, rustic impression and the dome was a brilliant party venue where we could stay on well into the late hours of the night.

All in all, an unforgettable weekend that will go down in our mental history books. We would highly recommend Huso!
